Fall 2011 Hunt Test

Our Fall Hunt Test is "in the bag" ~ a huge Thanks to Camille Druge and Yvonne Becker for stepping up and chairing this event - as well as everyone from MRC who stepped up and helped from throwers to bird hangers to Marshalls - it simply takes a small army to put this on and everyone did their part - Thanks!

We had some huge obstacles with workers due to the duck season being open and most of our regulars were out duck hunting and not available. We had a great time and results are posted on Entry Express!

Also, a huge Thank You to all of you who bought tickets for our dedication raffle! Together, we all came up with $850.00 to send to Susan G. Komen in memory of Judy Lynch. I am so proud of the comraderie of you all that dug into your pockets for this worthy cause. Thanks again so much! The bumpers were won by Judy Meyer & J. Chanley and the basket was won by Tony Vispetto.

Bernadette Talbot was on hand and taking pictures everywhere. Thanks to Bernadette for the Hunt Test Slide Show pictures.

Super Singles Playday

July 10, 2011 ~ Denverton

The SUPER SINGLES event was great fun! Sorry if you missed it. The dogs had a blast! Each group of dogs ran between electronic timers to a single mark. A huge thanks to Danika Bannisch for organizing and borrowing the timers - it made for great fun! Invariably, the dogs seemed to want to stop and shake, or smell, or whatever dogs do...before coming back through the electronic eye!

We were able to complete a land mark; a water mark, and a land-water mark by the mid afternoon. Everyone enjoyed Polish and Hot dogs and a great variety of food that everyone brought for the potluck. A big thanks to Tom Aiello for his great BBQ skills!

At the end of the day the winners were, in the Open Class PACO and FRANCES HARVEY ($39) took FIRST PLACE; NELL and ANGIE NILES took SECOND PLACE; and RILEY brought home $16 for THIRD for owner MIKE OBANNON!

In the Dogs over eight class - JACK won FIRST place for MIKE OBANNON ($11); KEEPER took SECOND place for CHRIS HEMPEL ($7); and DILLON took THIRD place ($5) for owner LAURA JUDD.

Not to be outdone, in the Dogs under Two class, EBBIE brought home $19 for TONY VISPETTO for FIRST place; DUKE took home $11 for SECOND for owner FRANK BLACH; and REEGAN brought in $8 for BRUCE HAYES for THIRD PLACE.

Finally in the Puppy class, PINT, the Toller puppy, took home $10 for owner DANIKA BANNISCH, and CODY won SECOND place for handler CAMILLE DRUGE winning her a whopping $7!

It was great fun to do something outside of our rigorous training routines Maybe next year we'll figure out how to do a splash dog contest!

Judging Seminar

On June 25th the club held an AKC judging seminar. Attendance at a seminar is a requirement  for becoming an AKC judge. To become a judge, you must attend a seminar, then two years later you must attend another seminar...after the second seminar, you then take a written test every four years...sooooo over the years there are less and less seminars offered. There are very few of these held annually, which is why it was so well attended. We had over 30 folks there, 19 MRC members - which will help us have a larger judging pool.  They are hugely informative and everyone learns something!

Tony Vispetto organized the event.  Tony's post event summary follows.

First, I want to thank Frances and Yvonne for all their help that made the event pleasant for everyone. Camille made the event move smoothly through her efforts in managing and setting up the event over the last several weeks. It made the transition for me to step in and take her place facilitating easier.

Overall, the event was successful. The Rush Ranch facility was fabulous, we had 31 actual attendees and the meeting room was large enough to hold 180 people. The Rush Ranch operation personnel (M was extremely helpful, she was there at 7 AM and helped me with setting up the tables and chairs, she also made her office available for us in case we needed office supplies etc. Wayne was impressed with the meeting center and surprised with the turn out. We had talked during the day about how everything was going. He was pleased to see that the audience was interactive and that they just didn't sit there with their hands folded and day dreaming. Lots of questions were asked and answered. Many of the individuals that I had spoken to, had only positive things to say about the event. I felt that everyone present had a good time. Wayne and I spoke briefly about Camille's thoughts of holding a super handlers/judges seminar for next year which he thought was a great idea.

I appreciated the help at the end of the day by all our club members and others that pitched in to help clean up the facility. We were out and on our way home by 3:45.

Tony

Spring 2011 Hunt Test ~ Corning

Our Annual Spring Hunt Test was held at the Clear Creek Sports Club April 2 & 3rd, 2011. We all arrived on friday for setup. The last month we have experienced 27 out of 30 days of rain - so we were ecstatic that it wasn't raining! It was windy, however, and the road edges were still quite soft. Participants were warned to stay on the gravel, and as a result nobody got stuck!

We had a great weekend! The BBQ and raffle were SPECTACULAR! Yvonne, Michelle, Alan and Pat did the best job ever! It was tough to come home after such a great time, but as usual everything wound down late Sunday afternoon.

Thanks so much to all the MRC volunteers that gave up their weekend to help put on the event. When they first arrived Friday, nobody was sure exactly where they'd be needed - then look out ! They didn't stop until it was over! It simply takes a small army of folks to put on an event where you have FOUR stakes running simultaneously. Once again, MRC folks pulled it off smoothly without a glitch!

Hats off to you all you deserve it!

A HUGE congratulations to all the MRC folks that took home the coveted pewter plate from the Master National in Corning! A special thanks also go to all of those of you who were not running a dog, but came up, on your own dime, to work on behalf of the Club. MRC volunteers worked over 100 hours, of which will be paid in the form of a donation to the club. Please check the Photos & Brags to see our group!
