2008 HOLIDAY PARTY

Our 2008 Holiday party was well attended by members from throughout the Bay Area. Even Santa stopped by, to the delight of other children in the restaurant who came over to visit with him! The food was fabulous, and the new Board of Directors was voted on for 2009. The new Board is the same as the 2008 Board, with the addition of several new members at large.
We had a quick meeting and talked a little about our 2009 Hunt Test as well as direction for new members and participation requirements at events for all members. Stay tuned for more about this later!
FALL 2008
On Saturday, November 15th, we had two guest trainers come to our training day and help members at the line. Cheryl Baca assisted the novice and beginner dogs and handlers. Debbie Ziegler came all the way from Red Bluff to help the Senior and Master folks. You'd have thought we were having a Hunt test, we had so many cars in the parking lot! What a great turnout! I hope everyone came away with a new piece of helpful information. It was a most informative day!Our sincerest thanks to Cheryl & Debbie for taking time out of their busy schedules to help us!
SPRING 2008
The Marin Retriever Club purchased 5 new kick wingers and 12 new blinds recently. This increases our inventory considerably and gives us the capability to travel with our trailer and equipment and put on a test at different locations! We are currently looking at new sites for some future tests! The MRC By-Laws will be on-line soon! Every Club Member should have access to the By-Laws and familiarize themselves with the Clubs rules. We all have strayed away from the By-Laws, but hopefully if they have their own page, it'll be easier access for all members! The Master National will be held in Gittings, Texas next fall. Then, in 2010, it will be back in California hosted by the Lassen Retriever Club in Northern Californai. They'll be looking to all of the local clubs for assistance in preparation for the event!
SUPER SINGLES PLAYDAY!
For the first time in many years MRC hosted a super singles playday. There was some discussion as to whether we should cancel due to an enormous amount of smoke in the air from Californias worst fire season anywhere. We decided to go ahead with it, and everyone had a great time! We all got three runs, the last one being a live flyer! The scores were averaged and the winners won dog paw medallions and prize money. See the photos page for some great shots taken by a member. The results are posted here.We did a potluck with everyone bringing something and we had tons of food. It really turned out to be a great day with our dogs and I think everyone had a good time! We could see that everyone enjoyed doing different things with their dogs so we will try and come up with more variety of creative things to schedule on training days! Suggestions are welcome and everything will be considered. I'm sure we'll do more super singles events!

On Sunday May 25th, the equipment trailer was completely cleaned out. All the mud was removed from all the blinds, everything was re-packed, swept and vacuumed, and a complete inventory of equipment was taken. Equipment shortages from the last test will be addressed at the Board Meeting on June 8th, and a decision will be made how to correct the problem so that there won't be a problem next time!

Local pro trainers are being contacted and invited to join us at one of our training days. More about this as it becomes available.
MARIN'S SPRING TEST A HUGE SUCCESS

The Club's Spring Hunt Test was a lot of fun and hard work! On April 19th/20th we held a double Junior/Senior and a single Master at CRTA's Denverton property. We had over 200 dogs entered!
The grounds turned out to be great and set-up with the Judges was great fun! The Master group did a round robin, so no group would have to wait on another group to finish before moving to the next series. This presented some challenges with equipment, but thanks to our great judges who loaned their own equipment as we ran five tests simultaneously!
The notorious Suisun winds came up Saturday afternoon and tried to blow us all away! Gusts were reported up to 30 mph, as those of us who tried to tie down the raffle found out! Even so, everyone pitched in and had a great time. Burgers were BBQ'd in the parking lot all afternoon. We raffled off a zinger winger and a new zinger holding blind! Don't miss our brags page with more photos!
The picture below was taken at the end of the test Sunday, and shows how well most of the Club members did. Unfortunately, some members had left or were otherwise unavailable for the Club photo, so we got some of our judges and their families in the shot!

2006 MASTER NATIONALS

For those of you lucky enough to have been able to attend and help ~ we all had a great time! It was a HUGE amount of work - but it was fun work and their were no huge issues. Over the next few weeks we'll be inserting photos of members that ran their dogs, both during setup and during the event! The weather cooperated, everyone was respectful of the gorgeous property, all the events went off as planned, and we hope everyone had a great time! Hats off to Gary B., Jeff and Susie Torres, Charles Tyson, Ray and Christy Gonzales, Julie Cairns, the Master National Board, Paul and AJ McGinnis, Ken and Kathy Goldstone, The Zumwalts, Yvonne and Michelle Becker, Jonathan Vanek, Roy Fray, Ed Ryska, Patty Brunn, the Langhornes, the Hills, the Sauls, Sheryl Jones, Jeanne Collier, Teresa Russell and everyone who gave up their time and worked tiredlessly to make this event such a memorable one.One of the ideas that our Club came up with was commemorative wine glasses. They were a huge hit and I'm sure those of you that purchased some will treasue them as I do mine.

Mead Ranch
Some of the beautiful property that the test was held on. The hills were dry but the ponds were full and a light rain during the week helped diffuse the concerns of any possible fire, as this was held during the height of the fire season.

The Gallery at one of the water series. The weather was gorgeous all week long during the event.
